'Almond' by Won-Pyung Sohn is a book recommended to me by a good friend.
It's been awhile since I've last read it so I remember only a few details. At first, I was wondering why the title is called 'Almond'. Turns out the protagonist is diagnosed with Alexithymia, so he can't identify or express emotion (reminded me of the Kdrama 'Genie'). Therefore, his mom often feeds him almond to make his amygdalae (shaped like almond) grow.
From my perspective, the protagonist is a lonely character. He is the odd one trying to fit in and live like other people. Throughout the story, he is met with lots of heart-breaking moments but he can't feel or express it.
At the end of the story, I remember me getting teared up although I don't quit recall what happen.
This story is not for everyone I guess. At first, I don't find it interesting or fun to read at all but towards the end I am quite invested. Maybe... go check it out!
