I’m not really into reading, but my friend recommended this book to me. I thought I would drop it after a few pages, but surprisingly, I didn’t. Here’s how I feel about this book.
This book is about a young woman who rediscovers herself through books and everyday moments in a small Tokyo bookshop. It is a gentle and healing story that teaches us that living a slow life can also bring solitude and happiness.
I really like how the main character slowly starts to enjoy her life in the small bookshop and recover from her dark past. Although the pain doesn’t disappear completely, she soon realizes that there is more to life than holding on to the past. Moreover, you can feel the warmth that the people in the neighborhood give. It shows that there are always people who care about you, even if they are strangers.
Besides the storyline, I like how the writing does not drag or over-explain the scenery. I usually find long descriptions of scenery or situations very boring. In this book, the descriptions are short, and I can immediately imagine what everything looks like.
After reading this book, I started to appreciate the small things in life, which makes everyday life feel different even though the routine is the same. If you like healing and heartwarming stories, I think it would be good to give this book a try.
